A bridge is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. A fixed bridge
is
made by putting crowns on the teeth at either side of the space, and
then
joining these two crowns together by placing a false tooth in the space.
Alternatively an adhesive bridge can be provided, this has wings that are bonded to the back of the supporting teeth with very little drilling involved. Bridges are often recommended if there is insufficient bone for implant placement or where the adjacent teeth may benefit from crowns.
This procedure involves two treatment visits. At the first visit the teeth either side of the space are prepared, an impression is then taken and sent to the laboratory. This impression allows the technician to make the bridge to the exact specifications of your mouth.
Once the bridge is completed you return for a second visit where the bridge
is permanently cemented into your mouth.
